Questions about Reading :)

Why is information overload a real problem?

How can human factors specialists apply what they know to graphic design? How are graphic designers like human factor specialists for each project we do?

Well...human factor specialists use psychology to examine how people behave in certain situations and how design can have an impact on their behavior. An example I found that was highly important was their part in aviation. They mentioned that with so many people on staff, human factors are an important consideration in aircraft safety. The designer is just as important as the human factor specialist. They must translate the researched information into something that anyone could easily understand and would be successful and beneficial in the message being conveyed.

human factors is also the study of the physical environment. when you are sitting in a car: someone that has a human factor background has decided how the seat feels, moves, tilts, how far the radio button is, how to control the window, wipers...
