Mk12 is an animation and graphic design studio in Kansas city...they do really incredible work! I just checked out their website, because I had previously only seen their motion graphics work (which is awesome) but their print work is also pretty amazing! its so colorful and full of vivid imagery! love it!
James bond

even though new bond movie, was in my opinion, the worst yet, the website is pretty neat! check it out! I really enjoy the dynamic way the information comes onto the screen after the first page is loaded! Also MK12 did the intro to the movie...they are from kc (and they are awesome!)

Mumbai Attack

During this time of thanksgiving I found myself being thankful for so many things, friends, family and though our economy may be in a recession, and petty crimes happen every day, our country which is for the most part a stable, safe (so to speak) place. I cannot imagion a place where people are persecuted for their religious and ideological beliefs, where rifts lead by radicals whose devote beliefs will stop at nothing to break the country apart, in order for their side to "win." I cannot fathom the feeling of terror someone living in a place like that would feel; to not feel safe in ones own home...terrifying. The Mumbai attack in India was simply terrifying. Its amazing to think that most of these attackers were young, probably younger than most of us, and had been so brainwashed as to think that they are doing good by killing. simply unfathomable.

Arbor Day Foundation Click Through

Yay! heres my click through for the Arbor Day Foundation!
http://people.ku.edu/~cjcurtin/clickthrough_4/homepage.htmlFishing
Anglers are not patient. Anticipation and concentration can make fishing an exhausting sport. It is mainly a solitary occupation. You hardly ever see peole fishing in groups, laughing and chatting with each other, or drinking alcohol and singing. Anglers can spend the day in silence. Even if you never catch anything, lazy afternoons spent fishing in the summer can be relaxing, rewarding and addictive.
A smile starter kit--a road, bait, a float, a lead weight and a hook--can be put together for about $20. As a legal requirement, you may need to purchase a fishing license. Check your state and local laws to see what permits might be required. The local fishing store will have to equiptment and be able to give you good advice about licenses and local fishing grounds.
The classic fishing method is with a float. Maggots from bluebottle or greenbottle flies are spiked on a hook suspended from a float that bobs on the surface. Push the hook through the blunt end of the maggot, taking care not to burst it, as it dies faster.
It tends to be necessary to place a couple of ball lead weights on the line to keep the float upright. Ask in the fishing store if you're not sure how.
Cast carefully as a hook catching in your eyebrow is a deeply unpleasant experience. Watch out for overhead cables or tree branches. Your basic reel will have two settings--one for casting and one for retrieving the hook. Allow it to run loose and catch the hook and float upstream and allow the hook to come downstream toward you in the current. The first moment when that float dips is an experience to be treasured! Otherwise, wind back in slowly and try it again, replacing your maggots when they no loner move. If its a nice day, find a place to sit and enjoy the peace that lasts until someone comes along and says," any luck?"
The second classic method involves a heavier lead weight that keeps the hook on the bottom. First taking the bait feel no resistance. This works well with carp.
It should be clear that the method depends on the fish. Pike and perch tend to attack injured or dying fish. As a result, they can be caught using a "spinner,
" a device that resembels a wounded or dying fish as it moves through the water. Many anglers use complex lures that mimic insects on the surface. For a biginner, though, you'd hope to catch one of the following:
Brook trout (salvelinus fontinalis). A group of trout is called a hover, and these can usually be found in spring-red lakes, streams and ponds with sand a gravel bottoms, This is a beautiful, speckled fish that eight states, including Vermont and New york claim as their official symbol.
Pike (esox lucieus). Pike are greenish with bright yellow eyes, wand while they usually weight up to a few pounds when you catch them, old fish that have avoided the lure for years can reach up to twenty pounds.
Small mouth bass (micropterus dolomieui). Bass are green with a white underside. They love to eat crayfish, but in the winter, they fast and hide at the bottom of lakes and rivers. You might also encounter the largemouth bass, which is almost identical to its smaller cousin.
Walleye (Stizostedion viteum). Walleyes, the favorite game fish of many Americans, especially in the midwest, are really huge perch, and taste just as nice. Walleye season starts in the middle of may.
Minnows. The tiny fish whose name has actually come to mean "small and insignificant."
There are too many other types to include here--the rivers and lakes teem with them. "game fishing" is a specific reference to the salmon family: salmon, trout, char and grayling. "coarse" fish have five fins--ventral, anal, dorsal, pectoral and caudal. Members of the salmon family all have one extra fin close to the tail--known as the adipose fin. Salmon are born from eggs laid in rivers and swim to the sea, where they live for one to three years. After that they return by instinct to the river where they were born to bread, in what is known as the "spawning season."
They are caught as they travel upstream, with a lure containing a hook. Catching a fish can be exciting--the real skill is not in hooking one but in bringing it in without breaking the line or losing the fish. As a final note, try reading the classic fishing tale by Ernest Hemingway--The Old Man and the Sea. Happy fishing!
Crayola
So I was searching the web for user friendly sites and I found crayola.com which is super kid friendly and has all sorts of fun gadgets to play with for hours online and to print out! I do wish however, that it was brighter and not so pastel colored~their products are so bright and fun that playfulness should be displayed better on the page, especially since it is such a big site!
Ben and Jerrys

After checking out jenna's book today I decided to search around the ben and jerrys website. The Intro to the page is great~the motion graphic changes (apparently) with the season as leaves and clouds move across the screen and a little cow turns its head to watch. Also the navigation is pretty sweet because it drops down and more information comes up without having to click! Plus there are lots of fun links to it as well!

readings...
Reading 4: This reading discussed the importance of getting to know your client: what they know and what the believe. You should also know who is the final decision maker or the power holder of the client team....it will/could make a huge difference in your pitch and its outcome. the article also talks about the importance of team organization and its effects on communication. Also very important=knowing your audience!!! "Design, initially, is knowing how to ask the right questions" --David Macaulay. Also the article lays out the keys to process and prototype testing: understanding the big picture is huge, then break it down into its parts (sitemap)!
Recipe for a successful website: Content, and by that I mean strong, good content + a bit of spice for a fresh feeling- unneeded filler content + realizing objectivity does not exist+ realizing less is more+ a voice=awesome website!
Order of Order: By creating "surprising juxtapositions" designers can spark an interest in their viewers, and at the same time create a nonstatic order to their website/other work. "Bend the common into something fresh just by arranging it differently"
Designing Interfaces: This article deals with navigation. First of all it is important to have clear entry points and a sequence to the website and you should always be able to "escape" or go back to the homepage or the page before. You should never have to click more than 8 times to get to where you are going. Also important is the idea that on a small portion of each page you should " show a consistent set of links or buttons that take the user to key sections of the site or application. "you are here" indicators can also be helpful for the viewer to more easily navigate. It also stresses the importance of using a hierarchy. Use color to your advantage, as a multitasker in both appearance and "which section of an application or site that page belongs to."
QUESTION:
After reading all of this information about website design, and how new and fresh it can be if it is done correctly. However, I began to wonder what happens when people begin to get bored of the internet? What will be next? Will there be somesort of new touch screen applications that we carry with us at all times beyond the iphone or ipod? What will come next in the world of technology and how will it have to be organized in order to keep from being outdated?
Design to Change

One of the greatest things I love about graphic design is that we really have the ability to make a difference! we can change the way people look at things and communicate. this website was created by a seattle based design studio called Wonderful Union. The site is called CHANGE ME. check it out its awesome!
